The Channel Islands are an unusual archipelago. While they dependencies of the British Crown, not part United Kingdom and main islands – Jersey Guernsey enjoy a considerable amount autonomy, as do Guernsey’s subsidiary territories, Sark Alderney. Jersey’s internal organisation, through patchwork administrative territories known parishes, is for its longevity does accord with modern expectations hierarchical space.
